That Fateful Day

The gruesome incident that took place in Delhi in the recent past has left India in a state of shock. This poem is an ode to all the girls out there who have experienced any kind of abuse from savage men, refused to succumb and chose to rise from the ashes of their past, fight for justice and walk towards a better life.  The optimism and will power they possess is truly inspirational. Kudos!

There she walked,
A damsel, an epitome of pristine beauty
She strolled alone in the midst of night
Her rosy lips sparked a scrumptious glow
Her auburn curls danced in pale moonlight.

There he stood,
He gazed at her with puckish eyes
Those that sparked with uncouth lust
Beguiled by her voluptuous curves
His savage soul succumbed to luscious thirst.

Ghastly thoughts flooded his fatuous mind
As his fingers clasped the pocket knife
He brisked towards the sonsy lass
A demon within sprang to life.

He skulked towards the beautiful girl
And grabbed her close with all his might
Unforseen fear tingled through her spine
Her senses numbed by instant fright.

He whisked her off into his car
He drove her to a sequestered place
She fought the ruthless beast in vain
As he trapped her in his tight embrace.

He pounced upon his helpless prey
And savoured every bit of her
She slipped into obscurity
As she withered in pain and her vision blurred.

Her nascent tears shone in pale twilight
Her tattered clothes lay soaked in blood
She surrendered to destiny's will
As her vehement cries went unheard.

He gazed at her for one last time
Abandoned her, and off he fled
She refused to loathe in self pity
And vowed to chase the beast instead.

As the noose was tightened around his neck
It marked the end of her atrocious strife
As he embarked stairway to hell
She embraced the start of her second life.
